Eckhard Stein

Eckhard Stein (* 1934 ; † January 23, 2006 ) was a German basketball coach .

Life

Stein practiced the sports of fistball , handball , athletics  and basketball . In 1955 he founded the basketball department at MTV Braunschweig . In 1962 Stein completed his studies at the German Sport University in Cologne and became a member of the teaching staff at the Braunschweig Lessinggymnasium . Stein promoted the sport of basketball at the school and in the club and, according to the Braunschweiger Zeitung, became an important "pioneer in the development of Braunschweiger basketball".

In 1978, Stein was one of the initiators of the merging of the basketball players of the MTV Braunschweig and the Free Gymnastics Association Braunschweig to form the FT / MTV Braunschweig syndicate . Stein, who was nicknamed "Ecki" in basketball circles, coached the SG men's team and led them to promotion to the regional league until 1985. His sons Lothar and Harald also belonged to the team . In 1987 he was promoted to the 2nd basketball league , where the 1987/88 season was sixth. As a successor, the Braunschweig team saw promotion to the basketball league , where Stein looked after the team as a team coach together with his son Lothar, who continued to play. The SG team remained under the leadership of the Steins in the Bundesliga game year 1988/89 without a win and was relegated again. Stein then left the coaching job to his son, but remained department head. Together with his son Lothar, he was responsible for founding the Braunschweig basketball performance center in 1990.
