Ed Visscher

Edward "Ed" Visscher ( 1932 or 1933 - October 13, 1999 ) was an American basketball coach .

Life

Visscher was a pastor, he worked from 1961 as a basketball coach and teacher at the Long Island Lutheran Middle & High School in the US state of New York , where he became headmaster.

In 1978 he moved to the University of Florida , where he became the assistant coach of the basketball team. In parts of the game year 1979/80 he stepped in as head coach after coach John Lotz had been sacked. In 1980 he moved to Orlando Luther High School as a school principal and basketball coach, where he stayed for six years.

After the end of his tenure in Orlando , Visscher moved to Europe as a coach and worked in Sweden . From 1987 he was in charge of the Danish first division club BMS Herlev and led him to win the national championship three times. In 1990 he moved to Horsens IC within Denmark and reached the Danish runner-up with the team in the 1990/91 season. In the game year 1991/92 he led Horsens to the first championship title in the club's history, but then could not agree with the club on a contract extension. He accepted an offer from TK Hannover , for which he worked as a coach in the Bundesliga until autumn 1993. From 1995 to December 1996 he coached the Paderborn Baskets in the 2nd basketball league .

Visscher founded a company with which he offered sports travel. He had five children with his wife Marie. Son David played basketball and later became a professional coach like his father. Visscher died of cancer in 1999 at the age of 66.
