Herbert "Harry" Angus (* 1870 in Manchester ; † 1935 ) was an English football player .

Career

Angus joined West Manchester from Gorton Villa in September 1890 and made his debut for the team in a 6-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers . He played with West Manchester in the Lancashire League and was regularly featured in match reports as the best attacker on his team. In March 1892 he came to the Football Alliance playing AFC Ardwick and, like John McVicker and Harry Middleton , made his debut in the same month in a friendly against Third Lanark and shortly afterwards also took part in a 2-2 draw against Preston North End , the runner-up in the Football League . In April 1892 he was on the occasion of a charity game in favor of David Weir against a selection for Ardwick called "Internationals". In the following days he also appeared first in a friendly against the Scottish club Renton FC , in which he prepared the opening goal of Hugh Morris together with Jack Angus from the start . In the further course of the first half he scored two goals himself and thus contributed significantly to the 5-1 victory. Shortly afterwards, he was also successful against the Football League club Notts County and scored the 3-0 final score.

For the following 1892/93 season , almost the entire Football Alliance was integrated into the Football League and Ardwick became part of the newly created Football League Second Division . Angus was considered a supplementary player before the season and was mostly on the reserve team in the Lancashire Combination . He made his competitive debut for the first team in October 1892 against local rivals and eventual champions Newton Heath , the Cricket and Football Field judged Angus' performance on the left winger in the 2-2 draw: “ Filled Milarvie's shoes worthily as Weir's partner. “After another appearance on the following day, a 2-0 defeat at Grimsby Town , he was no longer considered in the first team. He left the club at the end of the season and subsequently played for the Manchester-based amateur club Moss Side .
