Eddie Jackson

James Edward "Eddie" Jackson (born 1926 in Cookesville , Tennessee , † January 14, 2002 in Warren , Michigan ) was an American country and rockabilly singer. Jackson's career, who played western swing most of his life , lasted for nearly 50 years.

Life

Childhood and youth

Born in Cookesville, the Jacksons family soon moved to Detroit , Michigan . As a teenager he learned to play guitar and performed in bars and pubs. During the Second World War he served in the US Navy . After he was released, he tried his hand at singing in bands like Evelyn Hare's Swingtime Cowgirls and Paul Perry's Ramblers .

Career

With his band, the Swingsters , he performed in public bars and quickly established himself as a fixture on the local music scene. During the 1950s, Jackson was a member of the Michigan Barn Dance , a radio show on the WKNX radio station in Saginaw , Michigan. In 1949 he played his first record at Fortune Records . His second, Rock and Roll Baby , would not follow until six years later . However, this was held in rockabilly style, as well as his third record Baby Doll on Shelby Records. Jackson was one of the most popular country musicians in the fledgling rural music scene around Detroit. He performed in clubs like the Deauville Bar and Caravan Gardens until the 1970s, where he also shared the stage with stars like Lefty Frizzell , Webb Pierce and Red Foley . During the 1960s he tried again to land a hit with the Caravan Records, but in vain. With his band, The Swingsters , he performed until his death. A CD of his tracks was released in the 1990s.

Eddie Jackson died of respiratory failure .
