Jonathon Ng (born December 23, 1996 in Dublin , Ireland ), better known by his stage name EDEN , is an Irish producer, singer and songwriter of electronic music. It previously worked as The Eden Project, an alias that was discontinued in 2015. Ng's work as The Eden Project corresponds more to the genre of dubstep and drum and bass , while his music as EDEN is more to the style of indie pop.

Ng released over 40 tracks as The Eden Project including 6 EPs and some remixes. As EDEN he founded his own record label MCMXCV, on which his debut EP End Credits was released. His second EP, I think you think too much of me, was released in August 2016 and became his first album to hit the charts and debut at # 43 on the Irish Albums Chart. On January 19, 2019, Ng released his studio debut album vertigo , with which he also went on a world tour. On February 14, 2020, EDEN released his next and second studio album with the name no future, which was already in the top 150 of the album charts and in the top 10 of the alternative genre album charts one day after its release.

life and career

Early life

Ng was born in Dublin, Ireland. His mother is from Ireland and his father is from Hong Kong . Ng was trained in classical violin and music theory from the age of 7 . He later taught himself the piano , guitar and drums and began composing his own music as The Eden Project.

2013–2015: The Eden Project

Ng began releasing independent tracks as The Eden Project Label in 2013 and gained popularity through promotional networks. In 2014 he released the album Kairos, in which he experimented with the tracks Statues and Chasing Ghosts with a more reserved alternative music style. In October 2014, he released the Entrance EP, whose indie track Circles contrasted his familiar electronic style. His most popular tracks were deviations from his usual sound. On December 10, 2014, he was featured on the New York producer Puppet's track Scribble , which was then released on Monstercat .

In 2015 Ng released his new EP Bipolar Paradise EP, the track Fumes of which reached over 14 million views on YouTube. He later announced he was hiring The Eden Project and released Final Call, his final EP under the pseudonym . It contained two cover songs, one from Blank Space by Taylor Swift and the other from Crazy In Love by Beyoncé . Times Like These is officially the last song released under his previous pseudonym.

2015–2016: Change to EDEN, End Credits , ITYTTMOM and the Futurebound tour

After Final Call was released, Ng changed his alias to EDEN and recorded new songs in the spring of 2015. The End Credits EP was released for free worldwide on August 8th via the British label Seeking Blue Records and Ng's own label, MCMXCV. The EP consists of indie pop and alternative electronica tracks with a strong emphasis on vocals. Two singles, Nocturne and Gravity , were released in June and July respectively. In total, the EP has reached over 14 million plays on the SoundCloud streaming platform.

On March 22nd, Ng began his End Credits Tour with concerts in Dublin, London , Toronto , New York , Los Angeles and San Francisco . Tickets were sold out within the first week and an additional venue was set up in New York City due to high demand. The tour ended on April 8th.

Shortly after his End Credits Tour, Ng announced that his new EP, i think you think too much of me, would be released on August 19, 2016. On June 10, 2016, the first single Sex was released, which put a greater emphasis on vocals and instrumentation. A month later, Billboard magazine announced the new single Drugs , the day before its official release on July 15, 2016. The EP includes Fumes , previously released under The Eden Project, in addition to two other re-releases of The Eden Project Songs, XO and a remastered version of Circles . Upon release, the EP charted the Irish Albums Chart and became Ng's first music to hit the charts.

On September 7, 2016, Ng released a second music video for drugs , a 360-degree virtual reality experience. The video garnered 1.5 million Facebook views in a week.

I think you think too much of me was further promoted by the Futurebound Tour. The Futurebound Tour began on September 7, 2016 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The tour featured 33 performances in North America and Europe and ended on November 26th with a final show in Paris, France.

2017–2018: Festivals and Vertigo

EDEN started a festival tour in summer 2017. He also selected a few fans who would film their experiences at each show in order to post them on his Snapchat account. On September 2nd, Ng played his last show of the festival season at Electric Picnic. During his set he also performed the official version of start // end for the first time. The song had already been released on his SoundCloud account in January .

On September 28th, start // end was released as the first single from the upcoming album VERTIGO on all popular music platforms. The single was accompanied by a music video that, after being on the YouTube trends, has already surpassed over a million views. The video was shot in various locations in Europe, North America and Japan.

On November 7, 2017, EDEN hinted at the release of a new single on social media. On November 8th and 9th, the EDEN website displayed coordinates where people looked for hidden posters in various locations around the world. Gold was released on November 10, 2017, along with the announcement of the Vertigo World Tour due to begin in March 2018.

The third single, Crash, which is part of the album vertigo, was released on December 8, 2017 on Spotify and iTunes .

Vertigo was released on January 19, 2018 and consists of a total of 13 songs. EDEN will also be performing on the Vertigo World Tour from March to May 2018. He is accompanied by the singer and songwriter VÉRITÉ in North America and the band Crooked Colors in Europe.

2019-present: 909 and No Future

On April 24, 2019, the single 909 was released, which is not part of any album.

In October 2019 untitled and projector were released as the first singles of the upcoming album No Future. In December 2019 and January 2020, love, death, distraction and isohel followed , before the entire album with 19 tracks was released on February 14, 2020. It debuted at number 26 on the Billboard 200 , which is its highest chart position to date.

On May 6th, Ng released the single Peaked , which is the second of twelve songs on the tape, as part of the "New World Tapes" of his label MCMXCV . On June 24th appeared as the eleventh song of the tape "Cold Feet" in collaboration with Ryan Hemsworth, whereupon another collaboration with Kai Whiston under the title "Stingray" on July 15, 2020.

Additional works

Prior to the release of Endcredits, Ng did uncredited vocals for Mendum's song Elysium and credited vocals for Crywolf's song Stomach It . The singing of woah , a track in the Final Call EP from The Eden Project, was in the track I'll Be Your Reason of Illenium sampled, which was on June 8 by Nest HQ, a subsidiary of Skrillex Label Owsla published. After releasing End Credits , Ng performed uncredited vocals on Pierce Fulton's track No More , which was released on November 9, 2015 via Armada Music .

In November 2015, Ng released a cover of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean for free download. It has over 1 million plays on most streaming platforms.

In 2016, Ng collaborated with Puppet two more times, releasing uncredited vocals on the tracks Without Me and Vagabond , which were released on Monstercat as part of Puppet's debut EP Soft Spoken.

Ng has produced two EPs for London rapper ATO, Intro and Man of the House .

In September 2017 Ng provided uncredited vocals for the song Leaving on the second studio album Awake by the American producer Illenium .
