Edgar Roscoe Cumings

Edgar Roscoe Cumings (born February 20, 1874 in Ohio , † August 15, 1967 in Washington, DC ) was an American paleontologist and geologist .

Life

Cumings studied at Cornell University and received his PhD from Yale University in 1903 . From 1898 he was at Indiana University , where he was a professor of the geology faculty from 1904 to 1942.

He dealt with regional geology and paleontology in Indiana, especially the Cincinnatian (late Ordovician ), the fossil reefs from the Silurian Mountains in northern India and the fauna of the Salem limestone.

In 1931 he was President of the Paleontological Society .
