Edgar Schranz

Edgar Schranz (born June 2, 1930 in Vienna ; † April 13, 2009 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and a senior social security employee. Schranz was a member of the Federal Council from 1970 to 1971 and a member of the Austrian National Council from 1971 to 1994 .

education and profession

Schranz attended elementary school in Vienna between 1936 and 1940 and then completed a secondary school in Vienna from 1940 to 1949. He was a working student at the Universities of Graz and Vienna and received his doctorate in 1961 as a Dr. rer. pole. After graduating from high school, Schranz worked from 1949 to 1965 as a clerk for pension matters in the general disability insurance institution and was most recently head of the press department. He then held the office of director of the Austrian Farmer's Health Insurance Fund from 1965 to 1974, and from 1974 to 1993 he was Deputy General Director of the Farmer's Social Insurance Institution . He also worked part-time as a publicist and journalist and was appointed professor in 1996.

politics

Between December 15, 1970 and October 21, 1971, Schranz represented the SPÖ in the Federal Council. He then moved to the National Council, to which he was a member from November 4, 1971 to November 6, 1994. He was also a member of the SPÖ Vienna board of directors, from 1971 to 1994 district party chairman of the SPÖ Vienna- Leopoldstadt and from 1994 deputy district party chairman. He was also a member of the SPÖ federal party executive committee. As a senior politician, Schranz was a member of the association's board of directors and the presidium of the Austrian Pensioners' Association and was Deputy Chairman of the Pensioners' Association in Vienna and a member of the Seniors' Advisory Council of the City of Vienna and the federal government.

Schranz was buried at Vienna's Südwestfriedhof (group 14, row 2, number 1B).
