Edin Karamazov (* 1965 in Zenica , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Yugoslavia ) is a Bosnian lute player .

Career and life

Karamazov studied with Hopkinson Smith at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis . He worked with ensembles like Hesperion, L'Arpeggiata, Hilliard Ensemble , Mala Punica, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and with artists like Andreas Scholl , Maria Cristina Kiehr and Arianna Savall . In 2006 he published an album with the rock musician and singer Sting entitled Songs from the Labyrinth with songs by the English composer John Dowland (1563-1626). The CD, which was released by Deutsche Grammophon in October of that year , mainly contains lute vocals, but also instrumental pieces. On October 4th and 9th 2006 concerts took place in London and New York, in which Edin Karamazov and Sting together with the vocal ensemble Stile antico presented the album live for the first time. The London concert at St Luke's Church was recorded on BBC Radio 3. On October 23, 2006 there was a concert with this program in Berlin. In February and March 2007 Edin Karamazov accompanied Sting on a four-week European tour, which included Germany.
