Edmar Gees de Souza (born May 21, 1987 in Arapongas ), also called Mateus , is a Brazilian football player who plays as a striker.

Edmar Gees de Souza played for the Japanese football club Virgin, where he scored six goals in five games. During the winter break he moved to IRACI , a Brazilian football club, where he scored five goals in ten games.

In the summer of 2006 he signed the Turkish football club Fenerbahçe Istanbul , where he signed a five-year contract. Due to the foreigner regulation, however, he could not be used (in the Turkish league Turkcell Süper Ligi the clubs are allowed to have a maximum of six foreign players - Mateus was the seventh foreigner at Fenerbahçe), but was immediately loaned to Bursaspor , which does not yet have their quota of foreign players had exhausted.

Mateus scored his first goal for Bursaspor in the Turkcell Süper Ligi on December 10, 2006 against Galatasaray Istanbul . For the 2007/08 season (until June 2008) Mateus was loaned to Ankaraspor . Mateus was awarded on December 20, 2007 without any commitment for Ankaraspor back in the Brazilian league to the second division Coritiba FC to get the necessary match practice there. He is under contract at Fenerbahçe until 2011.

Since October 2008 he has been playing for the Brazilian second division club Fortaleza EC .
