Edmond Tapissier

Edmond Anne Antoine Tapissier (born July 14, 1861 in Lyon , Département Rhône , † April 27, 1943 in Treignac , Département Corrèze ) was a French painter and illustrator.

Life

Tapissier came from a wealthy merchant family; his father was a silk merchant. He received his first artistic lessons in his hometown in the studio of Jean-Baptiste Chatigny . With his support he was later accepted as a student at the Académie Colarossi in Paris .

From there he moved to the Académie Julian and finally became a student of Alexandre Cabanel and Fernand Cormon at the École des Beaux-Arts .

At the age of 41, tapissier married Jeanne Bonin from Treignac, where the couple later settled. Before that he made several study trips to and through Greece, Italy, Russia, Turkey and the Middle East.

reception

Tapissier signed some of his works with the pseudonym “E. Tap "or" Émile Tap "and" Rose Candide "; almost all of his oil paintings have his own name.
