Edmonia Jarrett

Edmonia Jarrett (March 11, 1933 - March 16, 2002 ) was an American jazz singer and actress.

Jarrett began her career as a jazz singer at the age of 55, having previously sung gospels in church choirs. In 1991 she appeared in the role of Bessie Smith in Seattle in a play about the life of Janis Joplin ; engagements in various jazz venues in the Seattle area followed. Two albums for the label MNOP, Live, Live, Live (1996) and a. a. with Buddy Catlett , Andy Simpkins and Floyd Standifer and Legal at Any Age (1998). In the 1990s she had minor roles in films such as The Stranger Face . In 1999 she made a guest appearance with Freddy Cole's band in Atlanta . Until the early 2000s she performed regularly in clubs and festivals in Seattle, the northwestern United States and western Canada, among others. a. accompanied by Hadley Caliman .
