Michael Sure

Michael Klar (* 1943 in Berlin ) is a German graphic artist, designer and university professor.

life and work

Michael Klar completed his training as a photographer at the Lette-Verein in Berlin . From 1963 to 1966 he studied visual communication at the Ulm School of Design , with Otl Aicher , Herbert W. Kapitzki and Tomás Maldonado , among others .

From 1966 to 1967 he was an assistant there and as a member of the Kapitzki / Ohl working group involved in the pavilion project of the Federal Republic of Germany at the Expo 67 world exhibition in Montreal , Canada . In 1968 he graduated from the HfG and was the student representative in the year the HfG Ulm was closed.

From 1968 to 1970 he worked on setting up the Holzäpfel Project Institute . With Bernd Meurer , he founded Projekt Co ', a design office in Ulm, in 1970.

In 1972 Klar received the professorship for visual design at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Design , whose teaching concepts he shaped significantly. In addition, he held various visiting professorships, including at Ohio State University , Columbus USA, at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver and at the University of Venice IUAV.

Klar was the founding dean of the design faculty at the Dresden University of Technology from 1992 to 1994 .

From 1992 to 2008 he taught at the Berlin University of the Arts, now the University of the Arts, as a professor of visual communication at the Institute for Transmedia Design.

Michael Klar lives and works as a designer in Berlin.
