Edmund Alexander Lanquaye Bannerman

Edmund Alexander Lanquaye Bannerman was a leading lawyer and politician in Ghana . With the post of Chief Justice of Ghana, he held the highest judicial office and also held a key constitutional position in the country. Bannerman succeeded Edward Akufo-Addo in the office of Chief Justice in 1970, making him fourth Chief Justice of the independent Ghana. Bannerman's successor in office was Samuel Azu Crabbe in 1972 .

Bannerman lost his post after the military coup on January 13, 1972 by Ignatius Kutu Acheampong . Acheampong smashed the Supreme Court and dismissed three senior judges, including Bannerman. In addition to Bannerman, Judges Koi Larbi and JB Siriboe were dismissed from office.
