Edmund Reek

Edmund H. Reek (born March 19, 1897 in New York , † October 24, 1971 ) was an American film producer and director . For his short and documentary films he was nominated a total of seven times for an Oscar in the 1940s and 1950s , of which he was able to win the award three times.

Life

Reek produced more than 40 films for 20th Century Fox between 1939 and 1956 . He has also directed some films. He only produced documentaries and short films , including so-called one-reelers with a length of up to 15 minutes and two-reelers with a length of up to 30 minutes. He also produced several episodes of the Mel Allen Sports Show and CinemaScope Special .

For the films Champions Carry On , Blue Grass Gentlemen , Along the Rainbow Trail and Golden Horses , he was unsuccessfully nominated for an Oscar four times in the “Best Short Film” category - One-Reel . With the film People in the City ( Mannniskor i stad ) from 1948 he was able to win the award in that category for the first time. In 1956 he repeated this success with Survival City . For his work on the documentary Why Korea? it also won an Oscar in 1951 in the category “Best Documentary Short Film” .
