Life

Edmund Wagenhofer graduated from the Humanist Gymnasium Borromäum in Salzburg in 1964 , after which he studied theology in Rome and economics in Vienna. He took his religious vows in 1969. On May 17, 1970 he was by Pope Paul VI. ordained a priest in Rome and was then cantor and housekeeper for years (first as a treasurer, then as sole responsible chamberlain). In 1997 the monks' convent of St. Peter elected him as successor to Franz Bachler for twelve years as 86th abbot and 4th archabbot of the St. Peter monastery in Salzburg. His motto is: In Te Domine confido - In you, O Lord, I trust . In 2003, together with Provost Rupert Kroisleitner, he was an Apostolic Visitator of the Premonstratensian Canons of Geras , as Abbot Joachim Angerer was accused of having led the Geras Abbey into over-indebtedness through extensive renovations. Since Archabbot Wagenhofer was not available for re-election on March 27, 2009, the Salzburg Benedictines elected Father Bruno Becker as the new Archabbot.

Former Archabbot Edmund has been the local prior administrator of the Maribor Priory in Slovenia since 2009, and he has been in charge of this since 2005. Since 2010, he has also headed the Emaus Abbey in Prague as prior administrator for a number of years . On 21 March 2012, the Roman confirmed religious congregation the election of Edmund Wagenhofer the Abbot President of Slavonic Benedictine Congregation.

Wagenhofer was also chairman of the Catholic University Works .
