Joachim Fridolin Angerer OPraem (* 8. February 1934 in Rottenbuch , Bayern , † 24. November 2019 in Baden , Lower Austria) was abbot of Lower Austria Premonstratensian - Canons Geras and musicologist .

Life

Angerer grew up in Bavaria. His father was Bavarian, his mother Austrian. In 1954 he joined the Scheyern Benedictine Abbey . After his temporary profession he studied philosophy in Salzburg from 1955 to 1957 as well as organ and music director at the Mozarteum .

From 1957 to 1961 he studied at the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm in Rome Theology , 1960, he became a priest ordained. After studying theology, he studied classical philology (Latin, Greek, history) in Würzburg until 1963 . In 1963 he moved to Austria, where he worked as a pastor in Eibenstein an der Thaya . In 1969 Angerer joined the Premonstratensian Order and was u. a. active as “provisional” and “woodruff” in the Geras Abbey . One focus of his publications are writings on the Melk monastery reform .

After having been prior from 1979 to 1985 , Angerer was elected 56th abbot of the Geras Abbey on January 15, 1986 , where he took care of the overall renovation and revitalization of the abbey until 1994. He was also responsible for the renovation of the Pernegg Abbey and its expansion into a fasting and seminar center. Subsequently he was responsible for the founding of new monasteries in Fritzlar in Germany and Itinga in Brazil .

In 2003, Angerer was accused of having led the Geras Abbey into over-indebtedness through extensive renovations. As of August 31, 2003, liabilities were EUR 10.1 million. The Holy See therefore appointed Archabbot Edmund Wagenhofer from the Archabbey of St. Peter and Prelate Kroisleitner from the Vorau Abbey as visitators to check what was going on.

When the sexual abuse of 20 boys between 1968 and 2001 by a member of the monastery was published at the beginning of 2004 , Angerer pleaded, among other things, for celibacy to be abandoned as the normal case and confessed, with the transfer of the priest and the regulation of psychotherapy Acting wrongly after the problems became known.
