Edmund van der Straeten

Edmund Anton Joseph van der Straeten (born November 9, 1819 in Gladbach, † June 12, 1887 in Cologne ) was a German politician. His son, Edmund Sebastian Joseph van der Straeten (1855–1934), was a cellist and composer who worked in London .

Life

Edmund van der Straeten studied 1840 jurisprudence at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn and the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg . In 1841 he became a member of the Corps Saxonia Bonn . After completing his studies, he became an auscultator at the Düsseldorf Regional Court in 1844 . In 1845 he became a government trainee in Düsseldorf . From 1855 to 1865 he was mayor of Gerresheim . He later lived as a reindeer in Cologne.

Van der Straeten was a member of the Rhenish Provincial Parliament from 1858 to 1862 . From 1862 to 1867 he sat as a member of the constituency of Düsseldorf 4 in the Prussian House of Representatives . In the 6th legislative period from 1862 to 1863 he belonged to the faction of the German Progressive Party and the Keller faction. In the following three legislative periods he was a member of the parliamentary group of the German Progressive Party.
