Eduard Aßler

Eduard Aßler (born February 19, 1887 in Herringhausen ; † January 28, 1986 in Enger ) was a German politician and NSDAP district leader in Herford-Land.

Life

Eduard Aßler was born as the son of the cigar manufacturer Heinrich Aßler. After attending primary school and business school in Bielefeld, he did an apprenticeship in a cigar factory and then worked as a commercial clerk in his father's company. Between 1906 and 1908 he had to do military service. Since 1910 he was a partner in his father's company as an independent businessman. From August 3, 1914 to December 11, 1918 he was a war participant in France and Russia and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. After his company was closed, he went to the Herford employment office in April 1933 and, after a short training period, became department head. In this position he remained until his election as mayor of Kirchlengern in November 1933. From December 1936 to 1945 he was the mayor of Herford-Hiddenhausen and from 1940 to 1945 he was district director for local politics in Herford. Drafted into the Volkssturm on April 3, 1945 , he was taken prisoner by the British on April 8, 1948 and remained in Recklinghausen until January 21, 1948. In the denazification process , he was classified in category IV, with a ban on employment in the public or semi-public service or in a leading position in private companies. After a short period of unemployment, he got a job as a commercial clerk in his brother-in-law's company, a quarry and road construction company.

Eduard Aßler married Anna Störmer on October 12, 1933 after his first wife had died in 1929. The marriage had seven children.
