Eduard Adler

Eduard Adler (born April 30, 1861 in Berlin , † February 2, 1938 in Berlin) was a German journalist and local politician ( SPD ).

Life

Eduard Adler comes from a middle-class family of Jewish origin. He attended the Luisenstädtische Gymnasium in Berlin and began to study after his military service. During his studies in 1885 he became a member of the Young Germany fraternity in the Kurfürstenkeller . During his studies, he was initially interested in the subjects of natural sciences, philosophy, modern languages, statistics, economics and law. His inclination changed. After graduating, he became a journalist. In 1900 he came to Kiel and became editor and later editor-in-chief of the Schleswig-Holsteinische Volkszeitung . In Kiel he sought connection to the workers' gymnastics movement and in 1902, as head gymnastics officer, took over the technical management of the "Free Gymnastics Association on the Kiel Fjord". From 1904 to 1919 he was a city councilor for the SPD in Kiel. On his initiative, a municipal sports and playground was built on Eckernförder Straße. In 1920 Adler was initially provisional district administrator of Eckernförde . After the election on October 1, 1921, he was confirmed in office. He resigned from this office in 1926. He moved to Berlin. His home address is still known until 1936. The further whereabouts cannot yet be determined. His great services to the formation and maintenance of the "Freie Turnerschaft an der Kieler Förde" led to the name "Freie Turnerschaft Adler von 1893 eV" when the club was re-established in 1949. was chosen.

In Kiel's marine district , Eduard-Adler-Strasse commemorates the former journalist and politician.
