Eduard Aldrian

Eduard Aldrian (* 26. April 1888 in Pula , Istria , † 1. October 1955 in Graz , Styria ) was from Austria originating Lieutenant General of the German Wehrmacht in World War II .

Life

After attending school, Aldrian completed an officer training and was then an officer in the Austro-Hungarian infantry of the Joint Army of Austria-Hungary . After the end of the First World War he was an officer in the Federal Army of the Republic of Austria or the corporate state and promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 26, 1936 .

After the annexation of Austria , Aldrian was accepted into the Wehrmacht on March 15, 1937 and assigned to the 35th observation battalion between June 5 and August 1, 1938. He was then from August 1, 1938 to October 25, 1939 commander of the 38th Mountain Observation Battalion and, as such, was promoted to colonel on August 1, 1939 . Between October 25, 1939 and November 9, 1941, he was in command of the 619th Special Artillery Regiment and from November 9, 1941 to March 1, 1943, Artillery Commander (Arko) 124. On September 1, 1942, he was promoted to major general . He was also acting commander of the 88th Infantry Division between October 19 and December 14, 1942 .

Subsequently, Aldrian was from January 18 to February 19, 1943 commander of the combat group named after him, and between March 1 and July 1, 1943, Higher Artillery Commander (HArko) 308, where he was in this position on June 1, 1943 was also promoted to lieutenant general. After being in reserve for a short time, he took over the post of Lieutenant General Emil Zellner on August 5, 1943 as commander of the 373rd (Croatian) Infantry Division and held this position until his replacement by Colonel Karl Hermann on October 20 1944. With this he took part from May 25 to June 6, 1944 in addition to the units of Colonel General Lothar Rendulic , General of the Infantry Ernst von Leyser and SS Oberführer Otto Kumm in the Rösselsprung company , the aim of which was to capture Josip Broz Tito to take or kill and thus permanently weaken the leadership structures of the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army (JVBA).

After he was again in reserve position from October 20, 1944 to January 20, 1945, he became Higher Artillery Commander 306. A few weeks after the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht , he was taken prisoner on May 28, 1945 . May 1946 was released.
