Eduard Ferdinand Petrowitsch Bradtman ( Russian Эдуард-Фердинанд Петрович Брадтман , born February 4, 1856 in Saint Petersburg ; † 1926 ) was a Russian architect of German origin who worked in Kiev . He worked in the style of Art Nouveau , but also neo- baroque and neo- renaissance .

Life

Bradtman studied from 1878 at the Russian Art Academy in Saint Petersburg and lived from the end of the 1880s in Kiev where he was a member of the German Evangelical Lutheran Congregation . From 1898 to 1915 he was the city architect of Kiev. During its existence (1906–1917) he taught architecture at the Kiev Art School. After the revolution he stayed in Kiev and continued to work as an architect and engineer. The exact date of his death and his grave are not known.

One of his most outstanding works was the Hotel Continental , which he built together with the architect Georg Schleifer from 1895 to 1897. Today the building is used by the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine . The present-day Nationale Iwan-Franko-Schauspielhaus , built between 1896 and 1898, was also created in collaboration with Georg Schleifer. The house of the weeping widow , an Art Nouveau villa in Kiev, was also built according to his plans.
