Eduard Caspar Post

Eduard Caspar Post (born March 15, 1827 in Hagen ; † October 21, 1882 there ) was a German landscape and still life painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Post was born as the twin of Christian (Carl?) Post and his wife Clementine, née Hilbeck (1805–1879), in Hagen. On April 11, 1827, he was baptized as a Protestant. His twin sister was Mathilde Post (1827-1883), who married the court director Carl Detzner. On May 2, 1833, his mother married Friedrich Elbers (1800–1860) and gave birth to the children Friedrich (* 1834), Pauline (1835–1911) and Gustav Adolf Friedrich (* 1838). Post studied in 1859/60 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in Rudolf Wiegmann's class . He had previously been in the United States of America . He toured Germany, the Netherlands (Scheveningen, 1866) and Italy and worked in Düsseldorf and was a member of the Malkasten artists' association . From 1861 to 1880 he was represented in various art exhibitions (Cologne, Berlin, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt am Main, Bremen).
