After graduating from school, Eduard Hiller began studying political science , which he had to break off prematurely for health reasons. Because of the climate, he moved to Hohenheim University in 1846 to study agriculture and forestry. After graduating , he worked as an administrator on the estate of the barons von Ellrichshausen and von Troyff in Assumstadt . However, with his fragile health, Hiller could only fill this position until 1855. In the years that followed, he retired to his parents' house to relax and wrote his first volume of poetry , Voices from the Sick Bed , which appeared in 1861 and was widely recognized by the poet and critic Ludwig Uhland . A teaching position at the University of Hohenheim, which Hiller accepted in 1860 and which earned him the appointment of professor, finally shattered his health in 1862. From then on he lived in seclusion in the village of Buoch, supported by the donations of a wealthy friend . His poems, especially the dialect poems, met with great interest among the population ( Wintergrün . Stuttgart, Greiner & Pfeiffer, 3rd edition 1886).
