Edward III. (Bar)

Edward III. (* Late June 1377 ; † October 25, 1415 in the Battle of Azincourt ) was Margrave of Pont-à-Mousson from 1399 to 1415 and Duke of Bar from 1401 to 1415. He was a son of Duke Robert I and Maria von France.

He became heir of Bar through the will of his father after the death of his brother Heinrich (1398) and the captivity of his brother Philipp after the battle of Nicopolis (1396). Bypassing Heinrich's son Robert , his father made him Margrave of Pont-à-Mousson in 1398 and, with his resignation, Duke of Bar in 1401.

In 1405 he was commissioned by the French King Charles VI. with the defense of Boulonnais against the attacks of the English. At the end of 1406 he took part in a campaign in Guyenne under the command of Duke Louis of Orléans . After his assassination in 1407 he allied himself with Johann Ohnefurcht and the Bourguignons .

Edward III. died in the battle of Azincourt. He was buried in the Saint-Maxe church in Bar-le-Duc . His successor was his brother, Cardinal Ludwig von Bar .

Eduard was not married, but the father of several illegitimate children:

  2. From an unknown woman: Anne, † probably 1420, and Henri Bâtard de Bar, attested in 1428, 1436 seigneur de Boursault, † after March 22, 1442
