Ludwig von Bar (* 1370/75; † June 23, 1430 in Varennes-en-Argonne ) was a French cardinal . As the fifth son of Duke Robert I of Bar and his wife Maria of France, he was also Duke of Bar from 1415 to 1419 .

Ludwig was chosen by his parents for a career in the Church:

In France he played an important role in the murder of Duke Louis de Valois, duc d'Orléans in 1407. In 1409 he took part in the Council of Pisa , together with Guy de Roye , Archbishop of Reims , and Pierre d'Ailly , the Bishop of Cambrai . In Voltri near Genoa , a dispute between the marshals of the city and Guy de Roye escalated into an uprising in which the Archbishop of Reims was killed. In Pisa the cardinals voted for the deposition of Benedict XIII. in Avignon and Gregory XII. in Rome and tried to put an end to the occidental schism with the election of Alexander V.

With the death of his brother Edward III. In the battle of Azincourt in 1415 he inherited the Duchy of Bar, but had to prevail against his brother-in-law Adolf , Duke of Jülich and Berg , who contradicted the succession with reference to Ludwig's ecclesiastical office.

In 1419 he brokered the marriage between his great-nephew René I d'Anjou and Isabella of Lorraine , the heir to Duke Charles II , in order to put an end to the centuries-old differences between the Dukes of Bar and Lorraine (Treaty of Saint-Mihiel from August 13, 1419) the Duchy of Bar.

Ludwig Cardinal von Bar was buried in the Cathedral of Verdun .
