Assani Lukimya-Mulongoti (born January 25, 1986 in Uvira ) is a Congolese football player who also has German citizenship . The defender is under contract with the German third division club KFC Uerdingen 05 .

Career

Beginnings in Berlin

Lukimya came to Berlin in 1994 at the age of eight from Zaire , today's Democratic Republic of the Congo . At the age of twelve he was asked by his neighbor, a coach at SV Norden-Nordwest , if he wanted to play in his club. He tried, but quickly lost interest and retired, but continued to play street football. At the age of 15 he rejoined a football club.

In summer 2004 he moved from Tasmania Gropiusstadt to Hertha BSC . In his first season he played mostly in the club's U-19s and played a game in the third-class regional league for Hertha's second team in the adult division. For the 2005/06 season Lukimya rose to the second team and completed 21 games in this season; In 2006/07 he became a regular player with 32 appearances. In the summer of 2007 he rose with Hertha's second team in the fourth-class Oberliga Nordost , whereupon he left the club after a total of two goals scored in 54 regional league appearances.

Hansa Rostock

For the 2007/08 season Lukimya first moved to the Oberliga Nordost and played there for the second team of Hansa Rostock , but was soon recommended for assignments in Rostock's first team, which had been promoted to the Bundesliga in the previous season . Lukimya made his Bundesliga debut against VfL Wolfsburg on October 6 of the 2007/08 season and received a professional contract valid from summer 2008 during the winter break. While he then qualified with the second team for the fourth-class regional league from 2008/09 , he was relegated to the second division with the Bundesliga squad . In March 2009, he was deleted from the Hansa's licensed squad and only played for the Rostock reserve team.

Via Jena to Düsseldorf

In August 2009 he dissolved his contract in Rostock and moved to third division club FC Carl Zeiss Jena , where he received a contract until summer 2010. The fans of FC Carl Zeiss Jena voted him here for the 2009/10 season.

For the 2010/11 season , Lukimya moved to the second division Fortuna Düsseldorf , where he signed a contract valid for both national leagues until 2012. Despite initial mistakes in defensive work, Lukimya continuously improved his performance and soon became an integral part of the Düsseldorf defense. With his now very consistent defense work, he blossomed into a crowd favorite, which was nicknamed "Lucky" in reference to the English word for happy . His achievements finally aroused the interest of various Bundesliga clubs.

For the 2012/13 season Lukimya moved to 1. FC Köln on a free transfer and received a contract initially valid for two years. After 1. FC Köln, which was 13th in the Bundesliga at the time the commitment was announced, relegated to the 2. Bundesliga on matchday 34, Lukimya's contract with FC lost its validity.

Change to Bremen

During the summer break of 2012, SV Werder Bremen signed Lukimya. He signed a three-year contract until June 30, 2015. He played his first competitive game for Werder in the 3-2 defeat against Hannover 96 on September 15, 2012, when he moved into the starting eleven for Sebastian Prödl , who was unable to work due to muscular problems . After initial nervousness, he delivered a good game overall and had the best duel record of all players. On the following match day, in a 2-2 draw against VfB Stuttgart , Lukimya came on after 89 minutes, but referee Guido Winkmann showed him the red card two minutes later for a foul on Georg Niedermeier .

In the winter, Lukimya was invited by his national coach to the Africa Cup of 2013 but decided not to take part. Instead, he wanted to concentrate on his club. Since then he has formed part of the team's central defense as a regular player. In August 2014 he extended his contract prematurely until June 30, 2017.

Move to China

On January 26, 2016, Lukimya moved to the Chinese first division club Liaoning Hongyun .

Return to Germany

On January 31, 2019, KFC Uerdingen 05 announced Lukimya's commitment. He received a contract until 2020.

National team

On August 20, 2008, Lukimya made his debut for the national football team of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in a friendly against Togo . This mission was followed by two more friendlies. Even after these three games, he received invitations to play for the national team, but he turned them down. The central defender also turned down an invitation to the Africa Cup of 2013 in order to be able to earn a regular place at Werder Bremen during the winter break. On September 3, 2014, Lukimya announced his resignation from the national team. He cited the travel strains between Germany and Africa as the reason.
