Dominic Maroh (born March 4, 1987 in Nürtingen ) is a German soccer player . Since 2018 he has been under contract with third division club KFC Uerdingen 05 .

youth

Maroh's mother is German , his father is Slovenian . He started playing football at the age of four with the Bambini of TSV Neckartailfingen as a striker. After nine years he left his home club.

Career

Beginnings

In 2000 he moved to SSV Reutlingen , where he played in the first team in the Regionalliga Süd from 2006, but was unable to establish himself as a regular player.

1. FC Nuremberg

In the summer of 2008 he moved to the second team of 1. FC Nürnberg , which had just been promoted to the Regionalliga Süd, and became a fixture in central defense. On October 26, he sat on the bench of the first team for the first time at the game in Koblenz .

He had his first professional appearance on November 7th in the 2nd Bundesliga against FSV Frankfurt . After a red card for central defender José Gonçalves in the 55th minute , Maroh was substituted on for striker Isaac Boakye . He then played through the rest of the first half of the season, with his first professional goal in his third game, the Frankenderby against SpVgg Greuther Fürth .

Even after the winter break, Maroh remained a regular. Up to the 31st day of the season he played for the full time except for one substitution, but then he tore his left shoulder lip, which is why he was not used again after twenty games. In that first season he did not see a yellow card as a central defender. After the season he was named the fourth best central defender of the second half of the season by the kicker sports magazine , which put him just one place behind his club colleague Javier Pinola .

Due to the shoulder injury, Maroh missed most of the 2009-10 pre-season friendly matches. He made his comeback on July 26, 2009 in the season opener against Glasgow Rangers . For the new season he was number 6 and was a regular player in the Bundesliga from the start . Despite a solid first half of the season, Breno, on loan from FC Bayern, was preferred after the winter break. This fell out after only eight appearances for the rest of the season and Maroh became a regular again. Maroh scored his first goal in the Bundesliga on April 17, 2010 in the away game against SC Freiburg; Although he initially headed an own goal, he also hit the opposing goal in the game. At the end of the season he played two relegation games against FC Augsburg , in which he succeeded in relegation.

In the 2010/11 season the competition for the two places in central defense grew by the new addition Per Nilsson . Initially, Wolf and Nilsson were given preference and when, in the second half of the season, young player Philipp Wollscheid also pushed his way into the team and formed a very successful duo with Wolf, Maroh only played a supplementary player this season (eight appearances). Wolf left the club for the 2011/12 season, but his place went to the Swiss newcomer Timm Klose . Towards the end of the first half of the season, however, Maroh was given preference again and was always in the starting line-up until matchday 32. Then Per Nilsson came back to use and it became apparent that the coming season was again not planned with Maroh as a regular player. He left the club at the end of the 2011/12 season.

1. FC Cologne

During the summer break of 2012, Maroh moved to 1. FC Köln , with whom he signed a contract dated June 30, 2014, which was later extended to the end of June 2015. On February 6, 2015, the contract was finally extended to summer 2018. On November 7th, 2015, the 12th matchday of the 2015/16 season , he scored both goals in a 2-1 win in the Rheinischer Derby against Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In 2018, Maroh's contract in Cologne was no longer extended.

KFC Uerdingen 05

On September 19, 2018, the third division KFC Uerdingen announced the commitment of Maroh. In the 1: 2 defeat against FSV Zwickau he made his debut for KFC on September 26, 2018.

National team

On February 11, 2009 Maroh was appointed to the Slovenian national team, but not used in the international match. In an interview shortly afterwards, he said he didn't want to play for Slovenia, but maybe one day for Germany . He reversed this decision and justified it with the too rapid pace of his then still young career; he was not ready yet, as he announced on his Facebook page. On August 15, 2012, he made his debut in the international match against Romania in the Slovenian national football team.
