Eduard Ichon (born December 27, 1879 in Bremen , † January 19, 1943 in Bremen) was a German theater director , founder and director.

Ichon, son of Theodor Ichon (born November 9, 1844 - September 13, 1917) and Marie Ichon , née Holler (* September 20, 1890 - May 5, 1923) and grandson of the wealthy entrepreneur Eduard Ichon , attended the old grammar school in Bremen. He studied history, literature and art history at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin , the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München . In 1907 he received his doctorate from Erich Marcks in Munich. phil. and then completed his habilitation with a topic on Friedrich Hebbel . He wanted to aim for a scientific career.

Then around 1910 Ichon turned to practical theater work. Together with Johannes Wiegand , he planned and founded the Bremer Schauspielhaus in the same year, which was initially located in the converted Tonhalle (concert hall built in 1853, later modern ) on Neustadtswall in Neustadt . Wiegand was the first director, while Ichon worked as a director.

From 1912 to 1913, the two had a theater building built at the Ostertor in the city ​​center according to plans by architects August Abbehusen and Otto Blendermann , which today represents the core of the theater on Goetheplatz in Bremen. The house opened in 1913 with a performance of Oscar Wilde's A Woman Without Meaning .

Ichon staged many classic plays in new forms and modern problem plays and thus gained fame as a director. In 1920 Ichon founded the community theater , supported by the Goethebund and the Beamtenbund .

After Wiegand's death, Ichon took over the management of the entire theater from 1940 until his death in 1943. Ichon was buried in the Riensberg cemetery in Bremen (grave location: V 497/498).

His son was the lawyer Dr. Ichon, who from 1950 had his law firm in the Villa Ichon at the Theater am Goetheplatz. His brother Dr. Theodor Ichon (born October 24, 1880 - † July 5, 1967) was a partner in the Ariadne real estate company .

In 1912 the Ichon family purchased an estate in Oberneuland, now partially a public park, known as Ichons Park and Landhaus Caesar-Ichon .
