Life

Eduard Leuchert was the son of the principal of a traveling theater of the same name, in which he initially appeared in children's roles. After small engagements of his own, Leuchert initially played amateur roles at the Theater an der Wien from 1840 to 1850 .

In 1850 he was hired as a heroic actor at the theater in der Josefstadt . As the main actor in the then popular knight and adventure plays, he was one of the busiest actors in this theater. As a result, he soon became the favorite of the female audience in particular. With his impressive figure and his formative voice, he was particularly suitable for these pieces.

In 1864 he was engaged at the Burgtheater , where he was only rarely employed and only in smaller roles.

On December 8, 1883, he passed away by suicide .

Eduard Leuchert was first married to the actress Bertha Rathmeyer, and after her death was second to the singer and actress Marie Spiller (1852-1894). His older sister Agnes, with whom he was on stage during his traveling years, was herself an actress and operetta soubrette and married to the theater director Josef Ferdinand Nesmüller .
