Eduard Weinlig

Johann Friedrich Ludolph Eduard Weinlig (born August 3, 1832 in Soltau , † March 28, 1920 in Harburg ) was a senator and manufacturer in Harburg.

Life

Eduard Weinlig was one of the six sons of the mayor of Soltau Franz Friedrich Achatz Eduard Weinlig and his wife Friederieke Gröning. His great-grandfather Christian Gottlob Weinlig won because of his alchemical knowledge the special confidence of the Saxon court, wrote important publications in the field of pharmacology and was founder of Elephant Pharmacy (Berlin) . Eduard Weinlig was the image of his great-grandfather and inherited his passion for science. Eduard Weinlig graduated from the Polytechnic University of Hanover . In 1854 he joined the company of his college friend Hermann Steinike as a partner; a company for the production of mineral water and lemonades . The company then traded under the names Steinike and Weinlig. 1854 developed Eduard Weinlig with his Compagnon a recipe for the fabrication of fruit juice with carbonated . As early as 1856, their products were delivered to North America. The Steinike und Weinlig company was one of the first companies ever to manufacture a soft drink from pure fruit juices. The drink Frisco was developed in the early 1930s. Frisco owes its name to an elegant modification of the word Frisc h o bst. The drink is still produced today by other manufacturers. In addition to his work as an entrepreneur, Eduard Weinlig performed voluntary activities in the city administration of Harburg for 40 years. From 1888 to 1919 he served as a senator. In 1920 Eduard Weinlig was buried in the old Harburg cemetery with high honors . The grave is provided with a coat of arms and is well preserved.

family

On May 24, 1866, Eduard Weinlig married Bertha Agnes Friedericke Küth in Itzehoe. From this marriage there were four sons and one daughter. The eldest son was Otto Friedrich Weinlig , the only daughter was only 1 ½ years old. Carl Weinlig (1870–1942) studied chemistry, received his doctorate in Heidelberg in 1894 and joined his father's company in 1901.

Honors

In 1913 a street was named after him and in 1918 he was given honorary citizenship of the city of Harburg.
