Eduard von Wattenwyl

Eduard von Wattenwyl (born February 6, 1820 in Bern ; † December 14, 1874 there ) was a Swiss lawyer, landowner, politician and historian.

Life

Wattenwyl attended grammar school in Bern and studied law in Bern , Bonn , Heidelberg and Berlin . In Bonn he had been a member of the Corps Rhenania since 1839 . In 1843 he became a lawyer (without a law firm). From 1843 to 1850 he was a landowner in Uttigen . After the death of his father, he took over the former Freiherrschaft Schloss Oberdiessbach near Thun . In 1846 he became first lieutenant in the Federal General Staff, and in 1847 adjutant to the general in the Sonderbund War . In 1856 he became a major.

In Diessbach Wattenwyl was a member of the local council and the church council. From 1850 to 1858 and from 1866 to 1874 he was a member of the council of the Canton of Bern as a representative of the Diessbach municipal council . In 1869 Eduard von Wattenwyl became President of the Historical Society of the Canton of Bern . He published several works on the history of the canton.
