Eduardo Guimarães

Eduardo Guimarães (born March 30, 1892 in Porto Alegre , Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil ; † December 13, 1928 in Rio de Janeiro , state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) was a symbolist Brazilian poet, translator and journalist. His participation in the legendary " Orpheu " magazine made him famous in Portugal .

Live and act

At the age of 16 he published his first sonnet entitled “Aos Lustres” in the newspaper “Jornal da Manha” in Porto Alegre. From 1911 he worked regularly as a journalist for various regional newspapers and magazines in Porto Alegre and the associated state of Rio Grande do Sul: Jornal do Commercio , Folha da Manha , Diario , Federacao , Correio do Povo .

He achieved his greatest attention with his participation in the legendary magazine "Orpheu", which was also published by his Brazilian compatriot Ronaldo de Carvalho , among others . Between 1912 and 1916 he lived and worked as a journalist in Rio de Janeiro and there also for various newspapers: for example for A Hora , Rio Jornal , A Impressao , Fon-Fon . He later also became head of the State Library of the State of Rio Grande do Sul.

His son Carlos Rafael Guimarães also became a well-known writer and journalist.

After his death, his name was chosen to host the book fair in Porto Alegre (since 1969).
