Edward Alfred Alexander Baldwin, 4th Earl Baldwin of Bewdley (born January 3, 1938 ) is a British peer , educator and politician .

Life

Baldwin was born on January 3, 1938 as the son of Arthur Baldwin, 3rd Earl Baldwin of Bewdley (1904-1976) and Joan Elspeth Tomes († 1980).

He attended Eton College and left it in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts . He then studied Modern Languages ​​and Law at Trinity College at the University of Oxford . In 1966 he graduated with a Master of Arts .

In between he had served two years in the armed forces in the military intelligence service , from 1956 to 1958. There he reached the rank of second lieutenant .

From 1970 to 1987 Baldwin worked in school administration, most recently in Oxfordshire (from 1980 to 1987).

From 1989 to 1991 he was a member of the Research Council for Complementary Medicine . From 1990 to 1998 he was Chair of the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board .

In 2004 Baldwin was the co-editor of a book about his grandfather's political career.

He currently lives in Upper Wolvercote . (Status: 1999)

Membership in the House of Lords

At the death of his father in 1976 he inherited the title of Earl Baldwin of Bewdley and the then associated seat in the House of Lords . There he sits as a crossbencher . Requests to speak from him are recorded in the Hansard from 1999 onwards.

In 1992 he was Joint Chairman of the Parliamentary Group for Alternative and Complimentary Medicine . From 1999 to 2000 Baldwin was a member of the Select Committee of Inquiry into Complimentary and Alternative Medicine .

In 1999 he was elected by the bearers of the hereditary titles to one of the 92 seats reserved for them. He took 16th place in the Crossbencher out of 28 seats to be awarded.

Baldwin was very irregularly present from 2001 onwards. He regularly speaks up, but has not taken part in a vote for a long time since March 14, 2007.

family

He is a grandson of former Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin . His paternal grandmother was Lucy Baldwin .

Baldwin was married to Sarah MacMurray James, daughter of Evan Maitland James, from 1970 until her death in 2001. The marriage resulted in three sons.
