Edward Cronjager
Edward Cronjager (born March 21, 1904 in New York City , New York , † June 15, 1960 in Woodland Hills , California ) was an American cameraman .
Life
Edward Cronjager was born into a film family of German origin. His father Henry Cronjager (1877-1967) and his uncle Jules had already been active as cameramen in the early days of silent films. At the age of 19, Cronjager was filming the famous boxing match between Jack Dempsey and Luis Firpo . In the mid-1920s he came to Hollywood, where he was able to work as a camera assistant in the position of chief cameraman after a relatively short time. His first films were often starring western star Richard Dix , and later he shot several times with director Gregory La Cava . He was often hired for western films.
A total of seven times, Cronjager was nominated for the Oscar for best camera for his image composition , without ever being able to win it. In total, he made over 100 films, as well as a few television episodes towards the end of his life. His nephew was the cameraman William Cronjager .
