Drake has been competing in the European Cup since January 2008 . In March he came into the points for the first time with 22nd place in the first downhill from Bansko . A month later he won the giant slalom, the super-G, the downhill and the super-combined at the British championships in Méribel (France). In the 2008/09 European Cup season , Drake achieved his best performances in the Super-G: In December he was among the top ten for the first time at the Reiteralm and at the end of February he just missed his first podium in Tarvisio with fourth place. In December 2008 he also took part in eight races in the Nor-Am Cup , in which he was five times in the top ten.
On January 17, 2009, Drake had his first World Cup appearance in the downhill on the Lauberhorn in Wengen . With almost eight seconds behind the winner Didier Défago , he was only able to classify himself far behind the points in third from last place. In February he took part in the 2009 World Cup in Val-d'Isère . In the downhill he came in 27th only to the penultimate place, in the Super-G he was classified 29th in the lower midfield. In the super combined he was disqualified after finishing 20th in the downhill because of a peat error in the slalom. On March 7, 2009, he contested his second World Cup run in Kvitfjell and reached 50th place out of 55 runners. At the beginning of April he became British champion in giant slalom and super-G. At the start of the 2009/10 European Cup season , Drake was among the top three for the first time in the Super-G on the Reiteralm. At his only World Cup start this winter in the Super-G in Kitzbühel , he finished 42nd. As one of three British ski racers, he also took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , where he competed in all disciplines except slalom and achieved 29th place in the super combined as the best result.
At the beginning of the 2010/11 season , Drake took part in several World Cup races in a row for the first time. On January 30th, 2011 he got his first World Cup points by finishing 26th in the Super Combined in Chamonix .
