Edward H. Robitzek

Edward Heinrich Robitzek (* 1912 in New York City , † February 20, 1984 in Salisbury (Maryland) ) was an American doctor, pulmonologist and tuberculosis expert on Staten Island .

Robitzek studied medicine at Colgate University and Columbia University (College of Physicians and Surgeons). After graduating, he spent two years as an intern at Fordham Hospital. From 1941 he was at Sea View Hospital and Home on Staten Island in New York. In 1973 he resigned from his position as chief physician there, had a private practice on Staten Island for two years and then moved to Maryland, where he worked once a week at a local lung clinic.

In 1951 he tried the tuberculosis chemotherapy drug isoniazid with Irving Selikoff at Sea View Hospital (then one of the main tuberculosis clinics in New York City) , and it proved to be a great advance. In 1955 they received the Lasker ~ DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award for this .
