Edward Enda Haughey, Baron Ballyedmond OBE (born January 5, 1944 in Kilcurry near Dundalk , † March 13, 2014 in Gillingham near Beccles , Norfolk ) was a Northern Irish politician and entrepreneur .

Life

Haughey founded the veterinary pharmaceutical company Norbrook in 1969 , which is now one of the largest companies in Northern Ireland. Another area of ​​Haughey's business was air travel, especially by helicopter. From 2000 to 2006 he owned Carlisle Lake District Airport in Irthington, Cumbria. In 1994 he acquired the nearby Corby Castle .

From 1993 to 2002 Haughey was a member of the Irish Senate . There he was a member of the Fianna Fáil faction. He was the second richest person in Northern Ireland , seventh largest in Ireland and 174reichste in the UK . Haughey was also Honorary Consul of Chile . In 2004 he was promoted to life peer and moved from the Ulster Unionist Party to the Tories .

On March 13, 2014, Haughey and three other people died in a helicopter crash in Gillingham, Norfolk. At the time of the crash, the weather conditions were poor.
