Edward Henry Potthast

Edward Henry Potthast (born June 10, 1857 in Cincinnati , † March 9, 1927 in New York City ) was an American impressionist painter.

From 1879 to 1881 Potthast studied with Thomas Satterwhite Noble (1835-1907). Later he went to the Royal Academy in Munich to Carl von Marr . Returned to Cincinnati in 1885, he studied again with Noble. In 1886 Potthast continued his studies with Fernand Cormon in Paris .

Potthast worked as an illustrator for a newspaper magazine. He has won numerous awards at exhibitions at the National Academy of Design , the Society of American Artists, and the Salmagundi Club . His subjects were Central Park , the New England landscape and the beach scenes of Long Island . His works hang in numerous American museums.

In 1906 Edward Henry Potthast was elected a member ( NA ) of the National Academy of Design .
