Edward Loomis Davenport ( November 15, 1816 in Boston , Massachusetts , United States - September 1, 1877 in Canton , Pennsylvania , United States) was an American stage actor .

Life

Edward Loomis Davenport made his first stage appearance in Providence , Rhode Island alongside Junius Brutus Booth . He later went to England , where he appeared alongside Anna Cora Mowatt , William Charles Macready and others. In 1854 he returned to the United States and starred in Shakespeare plays and stage versions of Dickens' novels. He was considered a well-known theater actor of his time.

Edward Davenport died in Canton, Pennsylvania at the age of 60.

family

In 1849 he married Fanny Vining , also known as Mrs. Charles Gill (1829-1891), an English stage actress for the Mrs. Mowatts Company . They were to become the founders of an acting dynasty: their son Harry Davenport (1866–1949), their daughter Fanny Davenport (1850–1898) and granddaughter Dorothy Davenport (1895–1977) also became actors.
