Edward McMath Beers (born May 27, 1877 in Nossville , Huntingdon County , Pennsylvania , †  April 21, 1932 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1932 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Beers attended public schools in his home country. In 1889 he moved to Mount Union with his parents . After his father's death in 1895, he succeeded him in the hotel industry. He also worked in agriculture. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1898 he participated as a delegate to the regional Republican Convention for Pennsylvania. Between 1910 and 1914, Beers was Mayor of Mount Union. He was also a board member of the First National Bank of Mount Union and the Grange Trust Co. of Huntingdon . Between 1914 and 1923 he served as an associate judge in Huntingdon County.

In the 1922 congressional election Beers was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the 18th  constituency of Pennsylvania, where he succeeded Aaron Shenk Kreider on March 4, 1923 . After four re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on April 21, 1932 . Since 1929 the work of the Congress has also been determined by the events of the Great Depression.
