Edwin Arend Perkins (born August 31, 1953 ) is a Canadian mathematician who deals with probability theory.

Perkins graduated from the University of Toronto with a bachelor's degree in 1975 and received his doctorate in 1979 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign under Frank Bardsley Knight ( A non-standard approach to Brownian local time ). He has been Assistant Professor since 1982 and Professor at the University of British Columbia since 1989, and a Canada Research Chair in Probability Theory since 2001.

He was visiting professor at the University of Strasbourg (1984) and in 2001 at the University of Wisconsin and also visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge .

With Martin T. Barlow he studied diffusion on the Sierpinski carpet in the 1980s .

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (1988) and the Royal Society (2007). In 2003 he received the CRM Fields PIMS Prize and in 1986 the Coxeter James Prize . In 1983 he received the Rollo Davidson Prize , the Jeffery Williams Prize in 2002 and the G. de B. Robinson Award in 1996 (with Steven N. Evans). In 2003 he became a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and in 2003 of the Fields Institute . From 2007 to 2009 he was a Killam Fellow and from 1992 to 1994 a Steacie Fellow.

In 1994 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Zurich ( Measure valued branching diffusions and interactions ).
