Life

Edwin C. Hahn worked with Roy Davidson for Howard Hawks ' aviator film SOS Fire on Board ( Only Angels Have Wings , 1939) as a film technician responsible for the special effects . While Davidson mainly made miniature models of buildings and airplanes, Hahn primarily took care of the editing of the sound effects. Hahn and Davidson received an Academy Award nomination for Best Special Effects for this Columbia Pictures- produced film starring Cary Grant and Jean Arthur . However, they could not prevail against Fred Sersen and Edmund H. Hansen , who were recognized for their special effects in Clarence Brown's Night over India ( The Rains Came , 1939).

Hahn, who had only appeared in this one film, died in Los Angeles in 1942 at the age of 53 and was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale .
