Roy Davidson

E. Roy Davidson (born March 3, 1896 , † August 19, 1962 in Los Angeles ) was an American film technician .

Life

Roy Davidson worked as a film technician for special effects in Hollywood from 1932 . First he worked for the small production company Hal Roach Studios . In 1936 he was awarded a contract with Columbia Pictures , where for the first time in Frank Capra's Mr. Deeds Goes to Town ( Mr. Deeds Goes to Town , 1936) was used. For Capra's science fiction film In the Fetters of Shangri-La ( Lost Horizon , 1937), he made miniatures of landscapes and buildings. This is also the case for Howard Hawks ' aviator film SOS Feuer am Bord ( Only Angels Have Wings , 1939), for which he and Edwin C. Hahn received an Oscar nomination in 1940 in the category Best Special Effects . Later he also worked with Hawks on his film noir classics haben und nichthaben ( To Have and Have Not , 1944) and tote sleep tight ( The Big Sleep , 1946). He died in Los Angeles in 1962 at the age of 66 .
