Egbert Herfurth

Egbert Herfurth (born April 5, 1944 in Wiese in Silesia) is a German graphic artist and painter who has become known through numerous book illustrations and poster designs.

Life

After an apprenticeship as offset retoucher from 1960 to 1962 and subsequent activity as a securities technician, Egbert Herfurth studied from 1964 to 1969 at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig with Wolfgang Mattheuer . From 1972 to 1974 he was an aspirant at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art . Herfurth returned to Leipzig from 1974 to 1977 and was a master student with Albert Kapr at the Leipzig University of Graphics and Book Art. He has been working as a freelancer since 1977. He is one of the most important Leipzig wood engravers. From 1974 to 1990 Egbert Herfurt was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR , from 1974 a member of the section management of the commercial graphics in the Leipzig district association. After 1990 he became a member of the Association of German Graphic Designers . His work comprises around 180 book illustrations as well as numerous posters and pictures. With more than 300 solo and group exhibitions in 20 countries, his work became known beyond Germany's borders.

His wife was the graphic artist Renate Herfurth (1943–2009). Egbert Herfurth lives and works in Leipzig .
