Egernsundbroen

Egernsundbroen ( Danish for "the Egernsund Bridge" or "Ekensund Bridge ") is a road and bascule bridge that lies in the very south of Denmark between the Gråsten district of Alnor and the town of Egernsund . The bridge leads over the narrow Egern Sound , which connects the Nübeler Noor with the Flensburg Fjord . The secondary road , which runs from Dybbøl to Skærbæk , and the Gendarmstien , a former border control path and now a hiking trail, runs over the four-lane road bridge ( Primærrute 8 until the opening of the Sønderborgmotorvejen at the end of March 2012 ) .

From the sea, ship traffic is shown when the bascule bridge will next open. During the day, the bridge is opened once an hour; it will be opened immediately for commercial shipping. The ships have a passage width of 25 meters. If the wind speed is over 18 meters per second, the flaps stay down.

history

Ferries have shortened the detour around the Nübeler Noor since the beginning of the 18th century. In the course of the strong development of road traffic in the 1950s, calls for a bridge became louder. Finally, in July 1964, the plans for the current bridge were approved and the following year work began, which was transferred to the companies Monberg & Thomsen A / S and Aarhus Maskinfabrik . After three years of construction, the Egernsundbroen was inaugurated on June 19, 1968 by Princess Benedigte . For motorists to ensure that their travel time reduced from Kruså to Sønderborg half an hour about.

In 1996, the bridge received a two-story control tower from which the opening of the flaps can be controlled. The control system, which was one of the most modern in Europe at the time, is now electronically monitored.

The Egernsundbroen opens in summer from April 1 to October 31 every hour at a quarter past 6:15 a.m. and 10:15 p.m. (as of 2019).
