biography
Egerton came as the son of John Hugh Ward-Boughton-Leigh and Alice Mary Ward-Boughton-Leigh , b. Herrick in London to the world. He attended Eton College and then graduated from the Royal Military College at Sandhurst . He was a participant in the First World War and made it to the rank of captain .
On September 19, 1927, in St. George's Church, Hanover Square, London, he married Helen Bendelari , who was born in the United States and became one of the most famous and successful British skiers in the 1930s under her married name Helen Boughton-Leigh . The couple spent the winter months regularly time for skiing in the Swiss mountains and took 1932 together on the 9th Alpine World Ski Championships in Italy Cortina d'Ampezzo part.
In the downhill race on February 4, 1932 , Boughton-Leigh finished as the fifth-best Brit out of 43 starters in 28th place. With a time of 6: 34.40 he was about 1: 20.00 minutes behind the winner Gustav Lantschner . In the slalom held two days later, he climbed to 16th place and with a total time of 1: 44.00 min was only 14 seconds behind the winner Friedl Däuber , but still ahead of his teammate Gordon Cleaver . In the alpine combination he reached 21st place overall, just behind Cleaver.
In the team rankings, Boughton-Leigh and the British team, which included Bill Bracken , Peter Lunn and William James Riddel as well as Cleaver, finished fifth in the downhill, surprisingly third in the slalom, ahead of Germany and fourth in the overall ranking of the alpine combination .
It was Boughton-Leigh's only participation in World Ski Championships.
After his divorce from his first wife Helen in 1934 - the marriage remained childless - he married Noeline Waller-Bridge on December 19, 1952 . Boughton-Leigh died in 1960 at the age of 62.
