The Egyptian Second Division ( Arabic دوري الدرجة الثانية المصري, DMG Daurī ad-daraǧa aṯ-ṯāniyya al-maṣrī ; also Egyptian Premier League B ) is the second highest Egyptian professional football league . It was founded in 1977.
The championship consists of three groups (A, B, C) and each of these groups consists of twelve teams . In each of the three groups there is a league system in which each club competes against every other club in the group in home and return matches. The clubs in the groups that are at the top of the table after the last matchday are promoted to the Egyptian Premier League . The current structure of the competition was first introduced in the 2019/20 season. Before that, between 4 and 19 teams played in three to six groups.
No more than three foreign players per team are allowed in the Egyptian Second Division.

Championships, mode and promoted
2011/12
The 2011/12 season was canceled due to the revolution. There was no promoted to the Premier League.
2012/13
The 2012/13 season was not finished. El Minya FC and El Raja Matruh have been promoted to the Premier League.
2013/14
In the 2013/14 season, six groups of 14 teams were played, with the first four teams in each group being promoted to the Premier League for the 2015/16 season in a play-off system . Although the season was not played completely, in the end Al Nasr SC, Alassiouty Sport and Ala'ab Damanhour rose to the Premier League.
2014/15
In the 2014/15 season, six groups of 13 teams were played, with the first three teams in each group being divided into three play-off groups, in which the group winners were promoted to the Premier League for the 2015/16 season .

2015/16
In the 2015/16 season, six groups of 11 teams were played, with the group winners playing two play-off games ( two -way leg) against another group winners in order to identify the promoted to the Premier League in the 2016/17 season .

2016/17
In the 2016/17 season, three groups were played, with the first-placed player being promoted to the Premier League in the 2017/18 season . Group A had 17 teams, Group B played with 19 teams and Group C played with 18 teams. As a result, the league mode meant that all groups had a different number of game days.
