Marriage (river name)

Marriage is a river name that is particularly common in East Frisia.

It designates a flowing, small body of water, such as the Sandhorster Ehe or the Westerender Ehe . The name is derived from the Old Frisian term ē for "river" or "water" and is related to the Old High German word aha , which is modified as a river name or component of the river name Aa , Aach , Ach , -ach , Ache (n) , -ache ( n) is now represented in large numbers throughout the German-speaking area. According to Albrecht Greule's German book of water names, there is the same etymon for some of the river names marriage :

  • The name of the well (Great) marriage mentioned marriage Bach , left tributary of the Aisch below Neustadt , go to a 1,023 occupied Eha back that spans Ee has developed into the present name form.
  • The name of a right tributary of the Ems - what is probably meant is the Westerender Ehe , which today flows into the Dollart via artificial underflows with another name in Emden - goes back to an older Ee , which is documented in 1312 in the compound Emutha 'Ehe- Münd ', in the 9th century .
