The Ehebach is a creek over 26 km long in the southern Steigerwald in the central Franconian district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim , which flows into the middle Aisch from the left below the Bruckenmühle in the municipality of Diespeck after a roughly east-north-east sweeping to the left . Its left tributary on the lower reaches, the Laimbach , contributes a larger partial catchment area than the upper reaches of the Ehebach up to there; the Laimbach is also longer, at least if you measure from the source of its highest upper course, the Bibart . After taking up the Laimbach, the Ehebach continues to flow in the direction of its inflow.

Surname

The Ehebach was and is only called marriage or - to distinguish it from a left tributary on the upper course near Markt Sugenheim called Kleine Ehe  - Große Ehe. Its rather flat valley landscape is the reason for marriage, in the Middle Ages there was a marriage district there.

geography

course

The Ehebach arises with the name Nachtwasengraben at the edge of the forest southwest of Herbolzheim and is called Ehebach below Herbolzheim. For almost half of its course it flows northeast and takes on the Kleine Ehe before Markt Sugenheim and then the Tiefenbach , both from the west. After the tributary of the Tiefenbach it flows east and below Langenfeld with the longer and left Laimbach , which has a larger catchment area than the Ehebach up to there. The Ehebach then approximately takes over its direction to the southeast. When Bruckmühle of Diespeck it flows 26.7 km from the left and finally in a westerly direction in the middle Aisch .

From the inflow of the Little Marriage between Deutenheim and Sugenheim at the beginning of the middle course, the stream flows in a fairly wide floodplain and loses only about 25 meters in height on its further flow path of about 17.5 km.

The mean bed slope from there onwards therefore remains below 1.5 ‰. The stream tends to flood in this area.

Catchment area

The Ehebach has a catchment area of 271 km² that is roughly the shape of an equilateral triangle. The right-hand side tapering towards the mouth of the river follows partly near the course of the Ehebach itself. The left-hand source brooks of its largest tributary, the Laimbach, are located close to the left-hand side of the river, and in the lower area it is followed by the stream from Scheine, Laimbach and finally Ehebach. The third side of the triangle forms the ridge of the Steigerwald against the Steigerwald foreland and behind it the eastern limb of the main triangle.

From the corner at the mouth ( 284  m above sea level ) less than three kilometers northeast of the city center of Neustadt an der Aisch , the right watershed runs with a little bend inward, approximately west-southwest to Bergholz ( 443  m above sea level ) southwest of Herbolzheim .

On its first section, which runs approximately north-northeast from there to the transmitter on the Friedrichsberg ( 473  m above sea level ) near Abtswind, the left has the most irregular course of the three sides with two projections outwards. In the course of the first projection, the Hohen Landberg ( 498  m above sea level ) and the Scheinberg ( 499  m above sea level ) are the highest mountains in the entire catchment area and beyond that in the entire Steigerwald ; the Geroldsbach and Biegenbach brooks that run to the Ehebach arise on them. The second ledge bends in the direction of the Steigerwald-Westsporn Schwanberg -sporn (mountain height 474  m above sea level ) and includes the source area of the Bibart; the watershed itself reaches a maximum height of about 467  m above sea level. NHN .

The further course of the left watershed from the northern tip of the catchment area on the Friedrichsberg to the mouth is less irregular, the heights reached here are mostly lower.

The area behind the west-north-western watershed drains on the section from Bergholz to Hohen Landberg via the Gollach to Tauber , then for a long time via the left Breitenbach tributary Iff and the Breitbach itself and from the Schwanberg then via the Castellbach and other tributaries of the Schwarzach to the Main .

The left watershed borders on its section from the northernmost point on the Friedrichsberg to the mouth on the outside first of the catchment area of the Reichen Ebrach , until after a little less than half of this distance the small but elongated catchment area of the Steinach pushes itself between the two waters; the Steinach flows into the Aisch just below the Ehebach.

Beyond the right watershed from the mouth back to the Bergholz, the Rempelsbach, then the Nesselbach, the Tief and the Seenheimer Mühlbach compete with the Ehebach brook system, all of which drain in an easterly to south-easterly direction above the Ehebach to the Aisch.

The Ehebach is nowhere more than 2.5 km from the right watershed, which is why the part of the catchment area to the left of the river is noticeably larger than the right.

geology

The major part of the Ehebach catchment area is in the Mittelkeuper , only in a narrow north-south running strip in the southwestern catchment area from about Krassolzheim to Herbolzheim lies roughly between two fault lines in the underground Unterkeuper . Otherwise the dominant layer is the gypsum keuper , the overlying sandstone keuper is located in an irregularly cantilevered, nowhere wide strip almost entirely on the northeastern watershed, even narrower and only in the area of the central reaches also on the right. On the western edge of the catchment area, only four witness mountains, the Scheinberg in the southern area, the closely spaced plateaus of the Schwanberg, the Kugelspielberg and the Sandberg around the source area of the Bibart are covered by sandstone keuper. The Grubsberg ( 288  m above sea level ), the spur of the mouth between Laimbach and Ehebach in the interior of the catchment, also protrudes into the sandstone keuper .

The large streams will soon be followed by alluvial sediment bands. The not very high mouth spur between Bibart and Scheine carries terrace gravel south-east of the Markt Bibart - Scheinfeld line , as does a smaller area a little upwards at the tributary of the Schönbach near Burgambach. In between there is loess derivative on the right slope of the Scheinetal around Grappertshofen .
