history
Place name
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1231 as "Northeim". The basic word of the place name is heim ( mhd. For house, home), the final word is nort (mhd. For north). Place names with directions were only used in the late Middle Ages. The fact that the place was only founded at this time is underlined by its relatively unfavorable location in the hilly terrain away from a river. Fertile regions were already settled in the early Middle Ages during the Franconian conquest . A place of this period, the 4 kilometers to the south on Ehenbach located Herbolzheim . Nordheim means the house north of Herbolzheim. In 1730 Nordheim was granted market rights. Since then, the Nordheim market has also been used. The dialect pronunciation (nōədɒ) is a sloped form of Nordheim.
17th century
During the Thirty Years' War, the military leader Tilly advanced via Neustadt an der Aisch on the old road between Schauerheim and Herbolzheim to Uffenheim.
20th century
On February 1, 1912, the name of the municipality Nordheim was officially changed to Markt Nordheim. During the Second World War, the districts of Ulsenheim and Herbolzheim were almost completely destroyed.
Incorporations
On January 1, 1976, the previously independent communities Herbolzheim and Ulsenheim were incorporated.
